Motorbike Rental Guide in Nha Trang, Vietnam

Requirements and Regulations

To drive Motorbikes legally in Vietnam, you need to follow these regulations:

For motorbikes over 50cc, you need an international driving permit (IDP) with a stamp on the "A" or "A1" category or a Vietnamese motorbike driver's license. This avoids complications if pulled over by the police.
Without a valid license, renting a larger motorbike (over 50cc) carries a risk of fines from 1 million VND to 3 million VND if stopped by the police.
For trips outside Khanh Hoa province, a valid international motorbike license (IDP with category A or A1 stamped) is mandatory. There may be an additional fee (see rental contract). We only rent for travel to neighboring provinces (Dalat, Ninh Thuan, Phu Yen).

Parking and Security

For your safety, we recommend the following parking tips:

Park your motorbike in your hotel's parking garage or a paid parking lot. There are many thieves, so avoid leaving it unguarded outside.
Tourist attractions, restaurants, and cafes often have parking attendants. If not, ask the staff for a safe parking spot.
If you can't find a secure spot, lock your motorbike and use the alarm lock we provide.

You are fully responsible for the motorbike, helmets, security systems, and gear provided.

Additional Information

Here are some other important points to remember:

A deposit is required. It can be: 1) your passport; or, 2) a government issued ID, and a photo of your passport; or, 3) a photo of your passport, and $200 USD.
Gasoline is not included. Refill the tank to the original level or pay for used fuel (market price).
50cc motorbikes are better for city roads, not mountains or long distances.

Traffic Laws and Fines

Learn and be aware of traffic laws and fines to avoid problems during your rental:

The speed limit within the city is 40 km per hour. On the highways, check for signs which show the allowed speed. Speed cameras are everywhere. Fines for speeding are expensive and can lead to license revocation and motorbike impound, which carry additional fees.
Do not drink and drive. Fines are severe and will lead to license revocation and motorbike impound, which carry additional fees.
Always comply with basic traffic rules, including: drivers and passengers must wear helmets, drive on the right side of the road, stop at red lights, use one-way streets correctly (use Google Maps), turn headlights on after 6pm, and use turn signals.
